Shark wrestling

Hey hey. What up y'all?

This week has been really cool. Albany is such a beautiful area! And the best part... the crazies are back! I had forgotten how much I loved crazy people!

There is a family in our ward called the Renfreys (Rainfreeze). I don't really know how to say or spell it, but that is my best guess. They are from Tasmania. There are some stereotypes that go along with that for those of you who don't know. Tasmanians are like the hillbillies of Australia. So, this guy brother Renfreys told us a story about when he lived there. He decided one day to go and catch a shark because he had never done it before. So, he goes out in his 10 ft row boat and pretty soon finds a shark - a 15 ft tiger shark. He then starts to beat it with his oar and stab it with a harpoon. He is wrestling with it for a few good minutes while the whole town is watching from shore. He finally stuns it enough to drag it into his boat - which is like half-sunk by now. He rows back to shore and feeds the whole town that night. Now, I know what you are all thinking - that there is no way the story is true. But I promise that the way this guy told it I know it is 100% true. Maybe it's a little embellished, but the event happened. His little girl told me she saw it and his wife did too.

The branch I am in is so great and we have so much going on. We found nine new investigators this week as a companionship, 18 as a district, and we broke the zone record for new investigators in a week too. Good things are happening in this area! Elder Cram (my new companion) is great! He is from Hawaii and is really cool. He was companions with Elder May too, so we have a link there.

I love you all so much and can't wait to bear hug you all. I wanted to share a quick scripture I found in personal study last week. It is in D&C 7:8. I'm not gonna lie. Sometimes D&C can be pretty dry, but this scripture was really cool. Joseph Smith is having revelation of the promise made to John the beloved - how he would remain on the earth until Jesus came again, and peter was told he would be speedily brought to dwell with Christ in His kingdom. It says, "Verily I say unto you, ye shall both have according to your desires, for ye both joy in that which ye have desired." That just helped me to understand that we are blessed according to our desires, no matter what they are. That is all part of agency. I have been pretty focused on desire for a while. We are judged, blessed, and we act according to our desires. I want mine to always be in line with God's commandments. That verse also helped me know even more that life is about having joy, which will come to us through our righteous desires. I'm gonna start getting really repetitive here in a sec so I'll just stop now.

I love you!
Elder Jamison
